Pre-employment medicals

A pre-employment medical assessment gives you a clear picture of a candidate’s baseline health before they start in a role. Our GPs conduct thorough, confidential assessments and provide timely written reports — keeping your hiring process moving without delays.

What’s included in a standard pre-employment medical:

  • Detailed health and medical history questionnaire
  • Vision and hearing screening (referral provided for hearing assessment)
  • Blood pressure and BMI
  • Blood tests (where required — fasting may be needed for some roles)
  • Urine drug screening (on request)
  • Vaccination status review and immunisation catch-up where required
  • Written report to the employer or HR team, with candidate consent

If you have an assessment in mind, please email the template with the job description to reception@cbddocs.com.au. We will review the requested information and provide you with a cost estimate.

Please note 2 appointments are required at least 3 days apart. The review appointment requires the serology results to be received by the doctor.

Turnaround: Standard written reports are provided within 24 business hours after the second appointment when test results have been received. Urgent reporting can be arranged — please discuss with our team prior to booking.

Executive health screenings

An executive health screening is a comprehensive, proactive health assessment designed for senior leaders, high-performing professionals, and employees whose health and performance are critical to your organisation. It goes well beyond a standard pre-employment medical.

Our executive health screening includes:

  • Comprehensive medical history review
  • Full cardiovascular risk assessment (including ECG if indicated)
  • Blood panel — full metabolic, lipid, liver, kidney, thyroid, and diabetes screen
  • Cancer screening (PSA for men, as appropriate for age, cervical screen and breast screen for women)
  • Cardiovascular risk assessment- external referral
  • Mental health and wellbeing review
  • Vision and hearing assessment (referral provided for hearing assessment)
  • Personalised health report with prioritised recommendations
  • Follow-up GP consultation to discuss results and action plan

Executive health screenings are particularly valued by organisations whose key personnel travel frequently, work in high-stress environments, or whose health directly affects organisational continuity. They also make a compelling addition to a senior executive remuneration package.

Please note 2 appointments are required at least 3 days apart so that the serology results are received by the doctor.

Employee wellness health checks

Annual or biennial employee health checks demonstrate your organisation’s commitment to staff wellbeing, reduce absenteeism, and catch health issues early — before they affect productivity or lead to extended leave.

Our employee wellness health checks can be offered as a standalone benefit or integrated into your broader health and wellbeing program. We can accommodate individual bookings or coordinate group scheduling for teams.

A standard employee wellness check includes:

  • Cardiovascular and metabolic risk assessment
  • Blood pressure, weight, and BMI
  • Blood tests — cholesterol, blood glucose, kidney and liver function
  • Mental health and wellbeing screen
  • Lifestyle review — sleep, alcohol, activity, nutrition
  • Personalised health summary with referrals where needed

Workplace urine drug screening

We provide workplace urine drug screening for pre-employment purposes, random screening programs, and post-incident testing. Our drug screening follows standard uses accredited laboratory testing.

Substances screened include cannabinoids, amphetamines, opiates, cocaine metabolites, and benzodiazepines. Extended panels are available on request.

Results are handled confidentially and reported in accordance with Australian workplace drug and alcohol policy standards.

Pre-deployment medicals and travel vaccinations

For organisations sending staff to high-risk or remote regions — including resource and mining sectors, NGOs, defence contractors, and international assignments — we provide pre-deployment medicals and comprehensive travel health consultations.

Services include:

  • Fitness for deployment assessment
  • Destination-specific vaccination program (including yellow fever, typhoid, hepatitis A/B, meningococcal, rabies, and others as required)
  • Malaria prophylaxis prescription
  • Health briefing for the destination region
  • Documentation for employer and insurer requirements

Fitness for duty assessments

A fitness for duty (FFD) assessment determines whether an employee is medically fit to return to work following illness, injury, or a mental health episode. the GPs provide objective, documented FFD assessments that protect both the employee and the employer.

FFD assessments can be arranged for return-to-work purposes, WorkCover matters, and situations where an employer has reasonable concern about an employee’s capacity to perform their role safely.

Why Melbourne CBD businesses choose CBD Doctors Melbourne

Location: Level 10, 53 Queen Street is within easy walking distance of Melbourne’s major corporate precincts — Collins Street, Bourke Street, William Street, and the broader CBD. Employees can attend an appointment during a lunch break or before or after work without losing significant time.

Availability: We offer most health assessment types. For organisations with tight hiring timelines, this is a significant practical advantage over clinics with longer wait times.

Tailored to your requirements: We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. Our practice manager works with HR and people & culture teams to design assessment frameworks that meet the specific requirements of each role type, industry, and organisation.

Confidential and compliant reporting: All assessments are conducted in accordance with Australian privacy legislation. Results are shared with employers only with the written consent of the candidate or employee, and in the format required by your organisation.

Continuity of care: One advantage of using a general practice over a specialist occupational health provider is that employees can establish an ongoing GP relationship at the same clinic. If a health issue is identified during a pre-employment medical, the employee already has a trusted GP who can manage follow-up care.

Multilingual team: The GPs speak English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Serbian, and Croatian — valuable for Melbourne’s diverse corporate workforce.
